Our History and Mission
Our Mission
We provide support to our 50+ members, by presenting speakers, technical programs, and by hosting exhibit space at the historical building at the Erie County Fair Grounds.
Through our programming we seek to encourage the preservation of documents and artifacts by local historic societies and provide them with tools and techniques to ensure items are well documented and stored according to appropriate museum standards. We also seek to develop programs that support historical societies in creating meaningful information for the public through tours, publications, exhibitions and involvement in community activities.
Our History
The Erie County Historical Federation was created in 1972 to assist historical societies in the Erie County area, to document, preserve, and educate the public on local history.
We would like to thank the original founders of the organization that met in Cheektowaga in 1972 for their work in gathering Erie County Historical Societies together; Julia Boyer Reinstein, Mildred Canfield Roehling, Willard Dittmar, Charles A. Neumann, Sherwood Sipprell, John Printy, Lillian Geiger, Henrietta Henskee and Walter Dunn.
